Dirty Sound Magnet is a psychedelic rock power trio from Fribourg, Switzerland. To members Stavros Dzodzosz (guitar, lead vocals), Marco Mottolini (bass, backing vocals) and Maxime Cosandey (drums, backing vocals), their collective means so much more. Dirty Sound Magnet is a lifelong pursuit built on a feverish, border-line-religious passion for music and a common set of guiding values and beliefs. The three state it plainly: “there is no plan B”. Their dedication is unconditional, unequivocal, and unavoidable. Not one of the members has been engaged in any side projects since the band’s formation a decade ago; Dirty Sound Magnet offers them a musical framework without any boundaries to their creative expression. The band’s DNA can be traced back to the ancestral ‘Golden Age of Rock’ (60s, 70s), but it would be incorrect to think that DSM is...“retro”. The musicians are inspired by contemporary artists and modern production techniques, pushing the boundaries as they see fit. The results are personal, unique and original. Simply put: the Dirty Sound Magnet experience is a mystical journey back to the future...
TRANSGENIC
While the previous album Western Lies was a sarcastic, unrestrained critique of the shortcomings of our western civilization,Transgenic focuses on individual behaviors within it. Drowned in this world of advanced technology and hyper-consumerism, individuals struggle to discover their inner self or communicate with each other. The album lays out a disturbing view of the present and the near future, with the significance of Social Media, and increasingly alarming ecological issues giving shape to an Orwellian dystopia. The egocentric practices inherent to Social Media are mocked by Stavros’ insolent lyrics and tone. The drama and loneliness of “Modern Man” is highlighted across Transgenic, with emotional issues and personal experiences completing the lyrical content. Musically, The album draws on the last 50 years of Pop Culture, with some touches of traditional folk music, but as a whole, Transgenic is true Rock. Production-wise, the band plays with light and shade and introduces the terms “Organic” and “Transgenic” as musical concepts. When delving into the organic realm, the sound is warmer, and the recording techniques used are vintage.
BIOGRAPHY
As teenagers, Stavros, Marco and Maxime were already devouring hundreds of albums while rehearsing with great intensity. This passion rapidly turned into an addiction, and the band members still rehearse every day when not on tour, or recording in the studio. In 2017, DSM released its third album, Western Lies, with Berlin-based label Noisolution. The results were instantaneous, with the band winning an award in the category of “best Swiss rock song” for their single ‘Homo Economicus’. Between 2017 and 2019 the band toured relentlessly, playing over 200 shows in various countries, including Switzerland, the UK, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Ireland, Austria, Italy, Hungary, and the Czech Republic.This hectic lifestyle didn’t diminish the creative output of the band, as the musicians decided to record a whole new album in the summer of 2018. What followed was an entire year spent producing their most ambitious and epic work to date, with sessions taking place across two tours and even on the road. The album, titled Transgenic, will be released on the 18th of October. These parts are recorded live in the studio, and often involve acoustic instruments such as the Greek bouzouki, the African balafon and western acoustic guitars to produce a sound that evokes Mother Nature.In the “Transgenic” domain, the parts remind us that what may seem at first natural is often in-fact artificial. Modern recording techniques and sampling are used to illustrate the interference of Man with nature, and the sounds are cold, precise and synthetic. The guitars were plugged straight into the mixing console (no amps used!) to create the signature guitar sound of Transgenic.The album’s guiding thread resides in the transition between the organic world that has accompanied humankind until now and the transgenic future in the making.
